John W. Pittenger

     John W. Pittenger was born on 15 August 1926. He was the son of S. Edward Pittenger and Mae Drick. John W. Pittenger married, at age 22, Doris Mae Dunlap, daughter of William Herman Dunlap and May R. Mutchler, on Thursday, 4 November 1948. John W. Pittenger died on 4 December 2008 at age 82 years, 3 months and 19 days.
     John W. Pittenger was known as Reverend professionally. His obituary was published on 7 December 2008 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:

     The Rev. John W. Pittenger, 82 of Montoursville surrounded by his loving wife, children, and family members went to be with his Lord and Saviour, whom he served for 54 years, on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 8:18 p.m.

     John graduated with honors from Montoursville High School in 1944. Upon graduation he entered the United States Army, while serving, he was called home upon the death of his father to take care of his mother.

     In 1949, John was called to be a minister, along with his loving wife and baby daughter, they packed all their belongings in their car and headed to Lancaster, PA. He graduated from Lancaster Bible College in 1952.

     Upon graduation, he accepted the Pastorate of Haneyville Baptist Church in Haneyville, PA. He ministered there for 17 years.

     He then became the Associate Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 6 years, where he taught the young adult class and served in various other ministries of the church.

     In 1976, he accepted the Pastorate of Loyalsock Baptist Church in Barbours, PA, where he served for 30 years.

     Along with being a Pastor, John also worked full-time, first as a carpenter for 34 years. Then, in 1981, he accepted a sales position with Certainum Welding Company, where he worked up to his death.

     John was a member of the Loyalsock Baptist Church, was a member of the N.R.A, enjoyed hunting with his children, grandchildren and great-grandson, and was an avid golfer.

     Born August 15, 1926, John was the son of S. Edward and Mae (Drick) Pittenger.

     Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Doris Mae Dunlap, they were married November 4th, 1948.

     Also, he is survived by his children, John D. Pittenger of Montoursville, Sharon (Gary) Glace of Williamsport, Gayle (Ron) Tenerovich of Williamsport, and Christine (Jim) Lorenzo of Pittsburgh, PA. A daughter, Lori, preceded him in March of 2006.

     He was the beloved grandfather of Eric Glace, Ranae Savidge, Todd Glace, Frank Tenerovich, Jennifer Johnson, Tim Tenerovich, John Jr. and Richard Pittenger, Michael and Emily Lorenzo; his beloved siblings, Dale of Steam Valley and Betty Guthrie of Hughesville.

     He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and thirty nieces and nephews.

     The Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, with Pastor Benjamin W. Hubbell officiating. Interment will follow in Montoursville Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

     In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Loyalsock Baptist Church, 9121 E. Rt. 973 Highway, Montoursville, PA 17754.
