Derick Updegraff was born in 1696.1 He was the son of Isaac Updegraff. Derick Updegraff married Margaret [—?—] circa 1714.1 Derick Updegraff died in 1738 at Province of Pennsylvania, America, at age 42 years.1
Derick Updegraff was also known as Dirck. Derick moved to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania probably before 1734, as on page 224 - History of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania we find: "Derrick Updegraff was a J. P. Clyde Shank's Vol. 4; states that Derick also lived in Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Berks County wasn't formed until 1752 from Bucks, Chester, Lancaster and Philadelphia Counties, so it would appear that the area he lived in while in Lancaster County could be the area that was later taken in to Berks County. Lancaster County was formed in 1729 from Chester County and this could be the land he lived on in Lancaster County was originally located in Chester County. As he died after 1729 (when Lancaster County was formed) and before 1752 (when Berks County was formed) records were searched for in Lancaster County and the following records were found:
Administration (died intestate) - Margaret petitioned for Letters of Administration and filed her bond on June 19, 1738; other Administration were from Harmon Updegraff and Richard Lowden, all of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania - Account of Administration were filed on Feburary 10, 1743.
Orphan's Court Abstract - Lancaster County, Misc. Docket 1742 - 1760. Feburary 10, 174? - On the application of the friends of Joseph, Ambrose, Jacob and Susanna Updegraff - John Myer is appointed to be their guardian. Reference: Lancaster Legacy, Vol. I, #1 - June 1953 South Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Services - page 4 and on page 18: Adm Abstract - Feburary 10, 174? - John Morris and Margaret his wife, (late widow and Administrator of the estate of Derick Updegraff) exhibited an account of their admistration and it appearing to the court that the decendent left a widow and six children: Herman, Mary (now wife of Peter Bangot), Joseph, Ambrose, Jacob and Susanna Updegraff.1
