Joseph Updegraff was born in 1767. He was the son of Derrick Updegraff and Susan Stricker. Joseph Updegraff died in 1807 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 40 years.

He was a member of the Continental Army, 5th Company Upper District Skippack, 5th Battalion.
