Emily Jane Sayre was born on 7 August 1862 at Mason County, Virginia. She married Lewis Grant Tillis, son of Clark Tillis and Eleanor Ellen Ponstler, circa 1885. Emily Jane Sayre died on 17 April 1944 at Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia, at age 81 years, 8 months and 10 days.
She was widowed at age 26 by the death of Lewis on 2 August 1889.
