Gordon Earl Shults was born on 12 March 1916 at Caryville, Campbell County, Tennessee. He married, at age 19, Alta Claiborne, age 21, daughter of Canada Hodge Claiborne and Ida S. Bartley, on Friday, 12 April 1935 at Huntsville, Scott County, Tennessee. Gordon Earl Shults died on 1 April 1997 at age 81 years and 20 days.
He became a widower at the age of 77 with the death of Alta on 2 December 1993.
