     Mary Pepperman was born on 7 March 1914 at Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2,1 She was the daughter of Charles Ellsworth Pepperman and Sallie Edith Waltz.1 Mary Pepperman married, at age 20, Harold T. Metzger, age 28, son of S. Frank Metzger and Levina D. Bower, on Tuesday, 10 July 1934 at Maple Springs Evangelical Church, Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 Mary Pepperman died on 6 January 2002 at 270 Selkirk Road, Williamsport, Pennsylvania, at age 87 years, 9 months and 30 days.2,1 She was buried on 9 January 2002 in the State Road United Methodist Church Cemetery, located in Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Kraig L. Faust.1
     She was widowed at age 47 by the death of Harold on 8 December 1961.3,1 As of circa 2000, Mary Pepperman lived at 2216 Fink Avenue, Williamsport, Pennsylvania.1 Her obituary was published on 7 January 2002 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:

     Mrs. Mary P. Metzger, 87, of 2216 Fink Avenue, died Sunday, January 6, 2002, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Donald H. and Irene Metzger, 270 Selkirk Road. She was the widow of Harold T. Metzger who died in 1961.

     Mary was born March 7, 1914, in Lycoming Township, a daughter of Charles and Sallie Waltz Pepperman. She was a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Linden for many years and she and her son managed a Sun-Gazette paper route in Old Lycoming Township for years.

     A member of St. John’s United Methodist Church since 1935, Mary taught Sunday School and played piano in the Primary department. She also belonged to Pine Run Grange #250 for over 50 years. She played piano and was in the kitchen band at Newberry Senior Citizens and was an avid bowler.

     Surviving in addition to her son and daughter-in-law are two grandchildren, Todd A. Metzger and Holly H. Miller; four great grandchildren; a sister, Helen S. Haire of city and a brother, LaRue E. Pepperman of Linden; and two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a sister, Geraldine Pepperman.

     Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from her church, 2101 Newberry St. with her pastor, the Rev. Kraig L. Faust, officiating. Burial will be in State Road Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 1 - 2 p.m. Wednesday. The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorials to either the Building Fund of St. John’s United Methodist Church or to Susquehanna Hospice, 1100 Grampian Boulevard, Williamsport, Pa., 17701.      Helen S. Pepperman's obituary on 10 December 2002 Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, stated that Mary Pepperman was her sister and preceeded her in death.4
