Henry Hafer

Henry Hafer was born on 4 September 1819 at Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John Henry Hafer and Gertrude Kline. Henry Hafer married Juliana Maria Egelman in 1840. Henry Hafer died on 27 November 1903 at Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania, at age 84 years, 2 months and 23 days.
He Reading Eagle Obituary. Henry Hafer one of the first employees of the Reading Railway Company died of old age and general disability, aged 84 years, at 5 a.m. today, at his residence, 47 Exeter. He was in failing health for a year and was bedfast for over a month. Deceased when a young man, secured a position with the Reading Company, and was employed by the latter for 35 years, most of the time as a brakeman. After he left the company, he moved to near Williamsport where he was engaged in farming a number of years. His wife, Juliana Egelman, died 20 years ago. These children remain: Mrs. Henrietta Lutz, Henry E. Hafer, Reading; William E. Hafer, Harrisburg; John E., Cyrus and Mary J., wife of John Frick of Williamsport; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Minnie Wells and a sister, Mrs. Samuel Romig of Reading; besides 35 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
