CAROLINE JACKSON BECOMES BRIDE OF CORPORAL SHOLDER
At a small informal wedding solemnized last evening at 8 o'clock, Miss Caroline Mary Jackson, daughter of Mrs. Caroline Jackson, of 1301 Lafayette Parkway, became the bride of Corporal William Dale Sholder, of the Army Air Corps, son of Clarence Sholder, of Williamsport RD 2.
The single ring ceremony was witnessed by members of the immediate families. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Henry B. Strittmatter, of this city, with Melvin C. Knight, also of this city, as the best man for Corporal Sholder.
The bride was attractive in a luggage suit with green accessories and a corsage of tea roses. Mrs. Strittmatter was attired in a smart delicate blue suit with navy accessories and a corsage of red rosebuds.
Immediately following the ceremony the couple left for a short wedding trip, after which the bride will make her home with her mother. Corporal Sholder will then return to Santa Rosa, Calif., where he is stationed. The bride is in charge of the drapery department at Sears Roebuck and Company.7
William Dale was listed in Clarence M. Sholder's obituary in August 1962 Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, as his son.3 The following article about William Dale was published circa 1970 Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This article stated:
W. D. SHOLDER FILLS VACANCY ON COUNCIL
The city council vacancy was filled last week with the appointment of former Democratic Councilman W. Dale Sholder, of 1214 Market Street. He will serve out the unexpired term of William F. Verdini, who resigned recently to accept a position as maintenance superintendent of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation at Montoursville.
City council selected Mr. Sholder unanimously over six other potential appointees. During the regular council meeting, a conference session was called at which time seven names were considered. When the regular session resumed, it was moved and seconded that Mr. Sholder be appointed, whereupon the mayor and three councilmen approved the motion.
'We'll play it cool,' said Mr. Sholder, referring to the 10 months he will serve on council. 'We have a very good council, and I am sure we will work well together,' he stated.
'One of my promary goals will be to stay within the budget. I am a great beleiver in this. I beleive thrifty government is essential. I realize certain things come up which make it difficult, but it can be done,' he explained.
Veteran Of Council
Mr. Sholder has served on the city council twice before. In 1955, he was elected to a four year term. He was then elected as county register and recorder. He filled a vacancy on council in 1965 following the death of William T. Morgan.
Although there had been rumors that Mr. Sholder would be appointed to the post, he expressed surprise when it became official. It was pointed out to him that 'you are the only person in Williamsport to head three departments - streets, fire and parks - as a member of city council.' He will now be in charge of the department of parks and public property.
Mr. Sholder and T. F. Meconi are the Democratic members of council, while John G. Good and William L. Paynter are Republicians. Mayor Richard J. Carey is a Democrat.10 The following article about William Dale was published circa 1970 Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This article stated:
OLD OBJECT FOUND UNDER FLAGSTONE
W. Dale Sholder, of 1214 Market Street, displays an object a neighbor boy found in Mr. Sholder's yard. Mr. Sholder said the boy, Carl Heafner, found the object under one of the flagstones the two were removing to make room for a patio. The object is not a coin, Mr. Sholder said, because the name of a company is imprinted on it. Mr. Sholder, a former city and county official, has asked a Philadelphia expert for his ideas on what the object might be.11
According to the Social Security Administrations Death Index William's last known residence was Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2
The obituary for Caroline Mary Jackson on 4 April 2001 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, listed William Dale Sholder as her deceased husband.8
