Ona Elizabeth Whittaker was born on 3 April 1910 at Oak Grove, Iowa. She was the daughter of Bertran Newman Whittaker and Susan Lincoln. Ona Elizabeth Whittaker married, at age 28, Virgil D. Jones on Sunday, 18 September 1938 at Lancaster, Schuyler County, Missouri. Ona Elizabeth Whittaker died on 10 July 2001 at Grinnell, Poweshiek County, Iowa, at age 91 years, 3 months and 7 days.

IN MEMORY OF ONA ELIZABETH JONES
Ona was born on April 3, 1910 in the Oak Grove neighborhood, south of Grinnell, Iowa to B. N. and Susan Lincoln Whitaker. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural school. In 1924, the family moved to Grinnell and she graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1927. She also attended the Four C's Business College in Des Moines. She worked for the J. D. Shifflet Law Firm in Grinnell for 17 years.
On September 18, 1938, she was married to Virgil D. Jones in Lancaster, Missouri. The couple lived in Grinnell and owned and operated the Grinnell Livestock Exchange. Ona was very involved in the business and worked as a clerk for many years.
She was a member of the Lady Elks of Grinnell and attended the First Friends Church in Grinnell.
She is survived by her sister, Bessy Palmer of Grinnell; one niece, Mary Ann Coppinger of Oskaloosa, and three nephews, David Palmer of Grinnell, Dennis Palmer of Aledo, Illinois and Tom Palmer of Salem, Iowa.
Ona died on Tuesday, July 10 2001, of injuries she received in an automobile accident in Grinnell. She was 91 years of age, and preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and an infant sister, Mary L. Whitaker.
