Merl Calvin Lovell was born on 10 December 1909 at Larryville, Piatt Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.3,4 He was the son of James Smith Lovell and Mary E. Neff. Merl Calvin Lovell married, at age 33, Miriam Eleanor Ulmer, age 32, daughter of Charles Ervin Ulmer and Margaret Sophia Dangle, on Thursday, 25 November 1943 at Saint Mark's Lutheran Church, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1,2,4 Merl Calvin Lovell died on 13 December 1989 at Williamsport Hospital, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 80 years and 3 days.1,3,4 He was buried on 16 December 1989 in the Montoursville Cemetery, located in Montoursville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.4
He was the one of the owners of Lovell & Strouble Machine Shop. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Montoursville. The marriage announcement for Merl Calvin Lovell and Miriam Eleanor Ulmer was published sometime in November 1943 in the local paper, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This announcement stated:

The marriage of Miss Miriam Eleanor Ulmer, of 640 Cemetery Street, this city, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ulmer, of Rose Valley, to Merl C. Lovell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Smith Lovell, of Montoursville, was solemnized in a ceremony performed by the Rev. J. Ray Houser in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Thanksgiving afternoon.
Miss Lois Ulmer was her sister's only attendant, and Harold Lovell was best man for his brother. The ushers were Donald W. Stroble and Evan Lovell, another brother of the bridegroom. After the ceremony a reception was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ireland, aunt and uncle of the bride. When Mr. and Mrs. Lovell return from a short wedding trip, they will live in Montoursville.2
