Sarah Lydia Speck was born on 5 August 1896.1,2 She married, at age 23, James Edward Updegraff, age 22, son of Clyde H. Updegraff and Margaret R. Lewis, on Friday, 11 June 1920.1 Sarah Lydia Speck died on 24 October 1990 at age 94 years, 2 months and 19 days.2
Her obituary was published on 25 October 1990 in the The Patriot-News, printed in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:
Sarah L. Updegraff, 94, of 451 Sand Hill Road, Hershey, and formerly of Beltsville, Md., died yesterday in Hershey Medical Center.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Beltsville, and the Beltsville Women's Club.
She was the widow of James E. Updegraff Sr. Surviving are a son, James E. Jr. of College Park, Md; three sisters, Dortha Kaufman of Naperville, Ill., Miriam Henry of Hershey, and Corinne Heefner of Harrisburg; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Lower Paxton Twp. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1500 N. Second St., Harrisburg 17102, or the memorial fund of her church, Cedar Lane, Beltsville, Md. 20705.3 The Social Security Death Index gives the last residence of record for Sarah as Beltsville, Prince George's County, Maryland.2
