     George Hay Covode was born on 19 August 1835 at Fairfield, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John Covode and Sarah Hay. George Hay Covode married Anna Earl, age 18 in August 1859 at Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. George Hay Covode married Bettie Saint Clair Robb in 1861. George Hay Covode died on 24 June 1864 at Saint Mary's, Pleasants County, West Virginia, at age 28 years, 10 months and 5 days.
     He became a widower at the age of 24 with the death of Anna on 28 April 1860.
