Cleo B. Briggs was born on 30 December 1918 at Grandfield, Tillman County, Oklahoma.1,2 He married, at age 20, Margaret Ann Updegrove, age 18, daughter of Shelby Glenn Updegrove and Minnie Mae Smith, on Saturday, 9 December 1939.1,3 Cleo B. Briggs died on 18 September 2001 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, at age 82 years, 8 months and 19 days.1,2 He was buried on 21 September 2001 in the Woodland Cemetery, located in Van Wert, Van Wert County, Ohio.1
Cleo B. Briggs also went by the name of Pete.1 He retired in 1980 from Falstaff Brewery at Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.1 His obituary was published on 20 September 2001 in the The Journal Gazette, printed in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. His obituary stated:
CLEO B. "PETE" BRIGGS, 82, died Tuesday at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport, Iowa.
Born in Grandfield, Okla., he retired as a machinist and refrigeration technician in 1980 at the former Falstaff Brewery in Fort Wayne. He served in the Navy during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret; three daughters, Kathy Smith of Greenville, Nancy Dellinger of Hilliard and Sally Haugen of Davenport; three sons, Don of Akron, Dave of St. Augustine, Fla., and Tim of Providence, R.I; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson.
Services at 11 a.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Davenport. Graveside services at 11 a.m. EDT (10 a.m. Fort Wayne time) Friday at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, with military rites with honors by American Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5083. Memorials to the church. Arrangements by Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert, and McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa.1 According to the Social Security Administrations Death Index Cleo's last known residence was Davenport, Scott County, Iowa.2
