Jacob Simon Kettenring was born in 1842 at Blooming Grove, Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Heinrich Kettenring and Agnes Stäbler. Jacob Simon Kettenring married Dorothy Keysor circa 1868 at Missouri.1 Jacob Simon Kettenring married Harriet Jane Ross, age 20 on Monday, 20 October 1879 at Cawker City, Mitchell County, Kansas.1 Jacob Simon Kettenring died on 4 August 1881 at Plainville, Rooks County, Kansas, at age 39 years.
According to Lowell Clark, Jacob was the family rebel. He was apprenticed out to the Brownlee family. He later went to Illinois and then to Missouri, where he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He and his descendants are Mormon.
