Donald Kiess was born on 2 November 1918.1 He was the son of Verus M. Kiess and Madoria Carvell.1 Donald Kiess died on 13 January 2006 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Mahoning Township, Montour County, Pennsylvania, at age 87 years, 2 months and 11 days.1 He was buried on 16 January 2006 in the Wildwood Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1
His obituary was published on 15 January 2006 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
Donald W. Kiess Sr., 87, of 9 Easy St., passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Williamsport, a son of the late Verus and Madoria (Carvell) Kiess. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne D. (Cummings) Kiess in 1991.
Mr. Kiess was a graduate of Williamsport High School and Lycoming College. He furthered his education with postgraduate work at Penn State and LaSalle Universities.
His business career began as an accountant for Pennsylvania Power and Light Co. He later joined the staff of Main and Co., a national firm of Certified Public Accountants. After three years of public accounting, he accepted the position of controller with New Holland Machine Division of Sperry Corp. He then served nine years as president and treasurer of the Babcock Manufacturing Co in Utica, N.Y. In the late fifties, he joined the Dutch Pantry Family Restaurants as financial vice president and treasurer. He later joined the investment banking firm of Janney Montgomery Scott Inc. and retired as the treasurer of Paulsen Wire Rope Company in Sunbury in 1983.
Donald enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf. He especially enjoyed yearly fishing trips to Canada where he belonged to the Kensington Fish and Game club, Quebec, Canada, where he was a member for 30 years. He was also a member of the Sunbury Grouse Club; the Mendix Investment Club; the Elks Club; the Susquehanna Valley Country Club; and numerous other organizations.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Jr. and Bonnie Kiess of Mechanicsburg and Brad and Denise Kiess of Winfield; and three grandchildren, Adam, Deanna and Danielle.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport, with the Rev. Wayne C. Muthler officiating. Arrangements are under the care of V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.1
