     John B. Kiess was born in 1838. He married Sophia Marquardt, daughter of Stephen Nickolas Marquardt and Rachel Kiess, circa 1865.1 John B. Kiess died in 1898 at age 60 years. He was buried in the Beckwith Cemetery, located in Colwell, Floyd County, Iowa.
