Mary Josephine Stroup was born on 15 June 1920.3,1,2 She was the daughter of James L. Stroup and Irene J. Heichel. Mary Josephine Stroup married, at age 20, Glenn W. Ulmer, age 20, son of Watson J. Ulmer and Mary A. Getz, on Friday, 30 August 1940 at Anthony Baptist Church, Anthony Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, by the Reverend Clyde Everett Weigle.3,1,4 Mary Josephine Stroup died on 10 May 2008 at age 87 years, 10 months and 25 days.2
She was widowed at age 84 by the death of Glenn on 11 April 2005.4 Her obituary was published on 13 May 2008 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:
Mary J. (Jo) Ulmer, 87, formerly of the 2400 block of West Fourth St., died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Manor Care North following a brief illness.
Her husband, Glenn W. Ulmer, died on April 11, 2005.
Jo was a member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church and was its office secretary for many years.
She was also a loan officer for the former Northern Central Bank for 25 years.
Born June 15, 1920 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of James L. and Irene J. Heichel Stroup.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Stroup.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Manor Care North second floor lounge, 300 Leader Drive with the Rev. Kraig L. Faust officiating. Burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be to the charity of the donor’s choice. Knight-Confer Funeral Home.5 The Social Security Death Index gives the last residence of record for Mary as Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2
