Johann Gottlieb Siegel was born on 8 July 1832 at Ölbronn, Oberamt Maulbronn, Neckarkreis, Württemberg.3,1,2 He was the son of Johann Andreas Siegel and Christina Neubold.1,2 Johann Gottlieb Siegel married, at age 32, Mary Ann Kiess, age 22, daughter of Leonard Kiess and Elizabeth Kiess, on Friday, 16 June 1865 at Lock Haven, Clinton County, Pennsylvania.3 Johann Gottlieb Siegel died in 1920 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 87 years. He was buried in the Williamsport Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
Johann Gottlieb Siegel was also known as John G. Siegel. He was a shoemaker and distillery worker in 1870. He and Mary Ann Kiess appeared on the census of 14 June 1880 at Mifflin Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. From 'History of Lycoming County', by Meginness 1892, page 1075.
John G. Siegel was born July 8, 1832, in Wuerttemberg, Germany, and grew to manhood in his native land. In 1854 he immigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and found employment at the shoemaker's trade, which business he had learned in Germany. In 1856 he came to Williamsport, and worked at his trade until 1861. He then enlisted in Company E, Forth Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served until 1863, when he was discharged for disability. He participated in the marches and battles in which his regiment was engaged, and took part in the Seven Days' Campaign before Richmond, and the Second Battle of Bull Run. Returning to Lycoming County he located in Salladasburg, and engaged in merchandising in connection with shoe making, which he followed eleven years at the village. In 1879 he purchased his present farm of sixty acres, on which he established a distillery, and has since conducted that business quite successfully. Mr. Siegel was married in 1865, to Mary A., daughter of Leonard Kiess, who has borne him a family of eight children. Politically Mr. Siegel was originally a Republican, but subsequently joined the Democratic party, and is still connected with that organization. He has filled the offices of jury commissioner, auditor, assessor, constable and school director, and has been quite active in the public affairs of his township. He is a member of the Lutheran Church.
