Grace Marion Ulmer

     Grace Marion Ulmer was born on 6 April 1924 at Hepburnville, Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1,2 She was the daughter of Nelson Waltz Ulmer and Mary Louise Fisher. Grace Marion Ulmer married, at age 21, Wilbur E. Merrill, age 25, son of Samuel H. Merrill and Laura Ulrich, on Monday, 31 December 1945.2 Grace Marion Ulmer died on 22 December 2002 at Manor Care Health Center, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 78 years, 8 months and 16 days.1,2 She was buried on 26 December 2002 in the Twin Hills Memorial Park, located in Fairfield Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Donald E. Yorks.2
     Her obituary was published on 24 December 2002 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:

     Grace M. Merrill, 78, of 1565 Brushy Ridge Road, Montoursville, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at the Manor Care, North in Williamsport. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Wilbur E. Merrill, who died Oct. 10, 1988. Born on April 6, 1924, in Hepburnville, she was a daughter of the late Nelson W. and Mary L. Fisher Ulmer.

Grace was a member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church, Montoursville, where she had served as secretary for the Board of Trustees and was a longtime choir member. She had been a past president and very active with the United Methodist Women. Grace was a graduate of Montoursville High School.

Surviving are a son, Donald E. (Sharon) Merrill of Montoursville; three daughters, Shelia M. (James) Snyder of Parker, Nancy L. (Dewayne) McDonald of Troup, Texas and Cynthia M. (Mark) Allen of Newark, Del; a brother, Paul Ulmer of Titusville, Fla; four sisters, Marie Straw of Covina, Calif., Ann Bonniwell of Exmore, Va., Alice LeQuinn of Hatboro and Margaret Schmidt of Plainwell, Mich; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Fairfield United Methodist Church, Fairfield Church Road, Montoursville with Rev. Donald Yorks officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield United Methodist Church, 147 Shick Road, Montoursville, PA 17754, in Grace’s name.2
