     Mate Eleanor Updegraff was born on 29 July 1896 at Carmen, Woods County, Oklahoma Territory, USA.1 She was the daughter of Alpha Gordon Updegraff and Effie Moore. Mate Eleanor Updegraff married, at age 21, Lee Shorter, son of Andrew Shorter and Alice Stratton, on Monday, 22 July 1918 at Medicine Lodge, Barber County, Kansas.2 Mate Eleanor Updegraff died on 21 April 1972 at Nash, Grant County, Oklahoma, at age 75 years, 8 months and 23 days.1
     She and Lee Shorter appeared on the census of 30 January 1920 at McKinley Township, Garfield County, Oklahoma. Mate Eleanor Updegraff was a writer between 1930 and 1960.2 According to the Social Security Administrations Death Index Mate's last known residence was Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.1
