John F. Updegraff was born on 3 December 1860 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Joseph Updegraff and Mary Slaughenwhite. John F. Updegraff married Sarah G. Harris, daughter of Peter Harris and Catherine Hall, in 1880. John F. Updegraff died on 29 September 1943 at Montoursville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 82 years, 9 months and 26 days.1
He was a mail carrier in 1903. John left a will - Will Book #27, page 481 Lycoming County Court House, made on 5 July 1940, filed on 29 Sept. 1943.
