W. Elwood Abernatha was born on 5 June 1912.1,2 He was the son of James Mensch Abernatha and Ruth Edna Updegraff. W. Elwood Abernatha married Helen L. Ade circa 1935.2 W. Elwood Abernatha died on 7 August 2000 at Williamsport Home, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 88 years, 2 months and 2 days.1,2 He was buried on 11 August 2000 in the Wildwood Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by John R. Shafer.2
W. Elwood Abernatha also went by the name of Abby.2 His obituary was published on 8 August 2000 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:

His wife, the former Helen L. Ade, died Jan. 11, 1995.
He retired in 1977 as a funeral director from the former Knight Funeral Home.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was past president of the Newberry Lions Club, a life member of Lions International, a member of John F. Laedlein Lodge 707 F&AM and Williamsport Consistory. He was past president of the former Williamsport Funeral Directors Association and a life member of Central Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association.
He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and a former member of its board of trustees.
Born June 5, 1912, he was a son of James M. and Ruth E. Updegraff Abernatha.
Surviving are a sister, Sarabelle Pickelner of this city; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jennifer and John Norton; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn M. Norton.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. John R. Shafer, his former pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. The family will provide the flowers.2
