Ada Katheryn Yoakum was born on 6 August 1917 at Knoxville Township, Ray County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Pryor Lee Yoakum and Mary Jane Davis. Ada Katheryn Yoakum married, at age 21, Kenneth Leonard Shumate, son of John L. Shumate and Lucy J. [—?—], on Wednesday, 14 September 1938. Ada Katheryn Yoakum died on 17 November 1989 at Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, at age 72 years, 3 months and 11 days. She was buried in the Bethel Christian Union Church Cemetery, located in Polo, Caldwell County, Missouri.

A. Katheryn Shumate, 72, Plattsburg, MO, died Friday, Nov. 17, 1989, at a hospital in Kansas City, MO.
Mrs. Shumate was born in Knoxville, MO, and lived in Plattsburg for about the last 40 years. She was a member of the first Baptist Church of Plattsburg.
On September 14, 1938 she married Kenneth Shumate. He survives of the home.
Additional survivors are four sons, Robert L. of Westminister, CO., Kenneth L. of Plattsburg, Gary L. of Blue Spring, MO, and John D. of Lakewood, CO; three brothers, Howard Yoakum of Loveland, CO, Clyde Yoakum of Silver City, NM, and John Yoakum of Grandview, MO; three sisters, Ernestine Misel of Richmond, MO, Mary Kincaid of Polo, MO, and Maudine O'Dell of Hemet, CA; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The funeral was Nov. 21 at Cox Funeral Home in Plattsburg. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery, Polo.
