Oscar Stephen Haney was born on 2 April 1879 at Van Buren County, Iowa. He was the son of Aaron Haney and Melissa Jane Claypool. Oscar Stephen Haney first married, at age 24, Della Mae Morrison, age 19 on Sunday, 2 August 1903. Oscar Stephen Haney married a second time Blanche Hamilton in 1938. Oscar Stephen Haney died on 28 February 1947 at Macomb, McDonough County, Illinois, at age 67 years, 10 months and 26 days.
He became a widower at the age of 56 with the death of Della on 13 June 1935. His obituary was published sometime in March 1947 in the local paper, printed in Macomb, McDonough County, Illinois. His obituary stated:
Oscar S. Haney, Macomb, Ill., died at the St. Francis hospital about 10:45 Friday night, several hours after he had suffered a heart attack at his home.
Mr. Haney had lived in Macomb since 1945, having previously lived at Plymouth. He was born April 2, 1879 at Keosauqua to Aaron and Melissa Claypoole Haney, and was a member of the Methodist church. In 1902 he married Della May Morrison, who died in 1935, and in 1938 he married Blanche Hamilton of Plymouth, who survives. In addition to the widow and two sons in Macomb, Ned O. and Richard A. Haney, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dora H. Layton, who is with her husband in Germany: two sons, W. G. Haney of Moline and C. R. Haney of Chicago and a brother Charles.
