Ralph J. Yoakum was born in 1913. He was the son of Alvis Greer Yoakum and Lillian VanBebber. Ralph J. Yoakum married Mary Ellen Woodward circa 1936. Ralph J. Yoakum died on 9 March 1999 at Saint Mary's Medical Center, Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee, at age 86 years. He was buried on 13 March 1999 in the Campbell Cemetery, located in Claiborne County, Tennessee.

YOAKUM, RALPH J. - age 86, of Jacksboro, Tenn., passed away March 9, 1999, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Knoxville. He was a member of Jacksboro First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher of Senior Adult Men's class. He was also a member and past Master of Jacksboro Masonic Lodge 322, F&AM, 32nd degree mason of the Knoxville Scottish Rite Bodies and member of Kerbela Shrine Temple, Knoxville.
Mr. Yoakum attended the University of Tennessee and served on Jacksboro Planning Commission and Citizens Advisory Board. On October 10, 1998, during Founders Day ceremonies, he was presented a plaque in recognition of his dedication and contribution generously given to the town and citizens of Jacksboro. He was retired from Tennessee Highway Dept. and a World War II veteran who served as a US Navy Seabee in the Pacific.
He was the son of the late Greer Yoakum and Lillian Van Bibber Yoakum. Also preceded in death by: two brothers, Glen and Kyle; and one sister, Gladys. He is survived by: his wife of 61 years, Mary Ellen Woodward Yoakum; three sisters, Juanita Byrd Haygood of Sumther, S.C., Freda Yoakum Byrd of Jacksboro, Tenn., and Kathryn Yoakum Denney of Monticello, Ky; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999, at Jacksboro First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Parker officiating. The family will receive friends 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the church prior to the services. Entombment in Campbell Memorial Gardens. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday school class and Dr. Burgin Wood. Active pallbearers will be his nephews, Ralph Byrd, Kyle Byrd, Herman Byrd, Lanny Byrd, Andrew Byrd, Robert Wixson, Daniel Taylor and Joshua Jacob. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial to Jacksboro First Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements by Cross Funeral Home.
