Raymond Willard Peoples was born on 12 October 1924 at Parsons, Labette County, Kansas.1 He was the son of Ralph Willard Peoples and Mable Pressie Updegraff.1 Raymond Willard Peoples married, at age 21, Winnie Pauline Smith, age 18 on Friday, 19 October 1945 at Columbus, Cherokee County, Kansas.2 Raymond Willard Peoples died on 13 September 2010 at Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri, at age 85 years, 11 months and 1 day.1 He was buried in the Carterville Cemetery, located in Carterville, Jasper County, Missouri.1
He appeared on the census of 2 April 1930 in the household of Ralph Willard Peoples and Mable Pressie Updegraff at Pleasant Valley, Labette County, Kansas. Raymond Willard Peoples appeared on the census of 11 April 1940 in the household of Ralph Willard Peoples and Mable Pressie Updegraff at Carthage, 2nd Ward, Jasper County, Missouri. He became a widower at the age of 84 with the death of Winnie on 5 February 2009.2 His obituary was published sometime in 14 September 2010 in the Joplin Globe, printed in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri. His obituary stated:
CARTHAGE, MO — Raymond Peoples, 85, of Carthage, passed away at 8:52 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin.
He was born on Oct. 12, 1924, in Parsons, Kan. He was the son of Ralph W. Peoples and Mable Uptigraff [Updegraff] Peoples.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Raymond worked at the Carthage Press starting as circulation manager, after he returned from the war he then worked as accounting manager and was then promoted to general manager. He retired in 1997, after 51 years. Raymond also worked for SMB for the past 11 years as a courier. He was a life time member of Kiwanis and was a member of Knights of Pythians (KP Lodge). Raymond loved to bowl and fish. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where he taught Adult Sunday school class was secretary and treasurer.
Raymond married Winnie Peoples on Oct. 19, 1945, in Columbus, Kan. Winnie preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 2009.
Raymond is survived by one son, David Peoples and wife, Mary, of Carthage; one daughter, Judy Pittman and husband, Tom, of Carthage; one brother, Robert Peoples, of Carthage; one sister, Mary Stager, of Ohio; three grandchildren, Eric Peoples and wife, Candie, Brandon Peoples and wife, Brandy and Brittany Pittman; and four great-grandchildren, Adri, Brantley, Bryon and Clay.
Raymond was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tamara Pittman; one brother, Ralph E. Peoples; and one sister, Naola Michael.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15. Burial will be in the Carterville Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church in care of the Ulmer Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ulmer Funeral Home.1
