John Bennett Updegraff III1

     John Bennett Updegraff III was born on 18 April 1930 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of John Bennett Updegraff Jr. and Arline R. Buck.2 John Bennett Updegraff III married, at age 29, Joanne Roberts, daughter of Frank Roberts and Teresa Pierce, on Saturday, 27 June 1959 at Warren, Warren County, Pennsylvania.2 John Bennett Updegraff III died on 24 November 2004 at West Swedesford Road, Exton, Chester County, Pennsylvania, at age 74 years, 7 months and 6 days.3,1
     He was an electrical engineer. He served in the United States Navy from between 1955 and 1957. His obituary was published on 27 November 2004 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:

     John B. Updegraff III, 74, of Exton, Chester County, Pa., died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at his residence.

Born April 18, 1930, in Williamsport, he was the son of John B. Updegraff Jr. and Arline (Buck) Updegraff, both deceased.

He was married to Joanne (Roberts) Updegraff for 45 years, and she survives him.

He was a 1948 graduate of Warren High School, Warren, Pa., and also graduated from the Indiana Institute of Technology with a degree in electrical engineering. He was an electrical engineer for Cochrane, a division of Crane Corp., Allan Sherman Hoff and Birdsboro Corp. He was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in West Chester for 38 years. He was a member of the Boy Scouts in his youth. He was a member of Alpha Omega Tau fraternity and North Star Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. He had a passion for golf, loved to repair things and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was affectionately known as Poppa Jack to his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of Exton, he is survived by daughters Jennifer Ann (Stephen) of Brooks, and Julie Lynn (Richard) of Adinolfi; son, John Bennett (Kimberely) Updegraff IV; and grandchildren Allison and Erin Brooks, Nicholas and Alyssa Adinolfi and Tristan Updegraff. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard Updegraff.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 730 S. New St., West Chester. Burial will be at noon Monday in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
