Merl James Waltz was born on 3 May 1939 at Trout Run, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Charles D. Waltz and Marjorie Laura Menne. Merl James Waltz married, at age 22, Mary A. Harbaugh on Saturday, 16 September 1961. Merl James Waltz died on 19 May 2009 at Chambersburg, Greene Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, at age 70 years and 16 days. He was buried on 22 May 2009 in the Trout Run Cemetery, located in Lewis Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Eugene M. Cline.

Merl J. Waltz, age 70, of 2923 Roosevelt Dr. Chambersburg, Pa. died 11:30 AM Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at his home with his family at his bedside. He was born May 3, 1939 in Trout Run, Pa., son of the late Charles D. and Marjorie Menne Waltz.
He was a district forester with the Dept. of Conservation & Natural Resoures in McConnellsburg, Pa., retiring in 2002 after 41 years of service. Merl was a 1961 graduate of Penn State University. A member of the Cashtown Lions Club, the Izaak Walton League of Chambersburg; and the John F. Laedlein Lodge # 707 F &AM., Williamsport, Pa. Merl was also a member of the Greenstone Apostolic Church.
Surviving is his wife, Mary A. Harbaugh Waltz , whom he married on September 16, 1961. Three daughters, Judy Waltz of Taneytown, Md., Donna Pedersen of Carlisle, Pa., and Debra, wife of Bruce Kocher of East Berlin, Pa. Seven grandchildren; Zachary and Andrea Carney, Erica and Taylor Kocher, and Katie, Christopher and Alexander Pedersen. One sister, Mary Faithe Hartman of Williamsport, Pa., and five brothers, R. Donald Waltz of Williamsport, Pa., C. Thomas Waltz and Glen Waltz, both of Trout Run, Pa., Michael Waltz and Steven Waltz, both of Chicago, Ill.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 22, 2009 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home 333 Falling Spring Rd. Chambersburg, Pa. with Pastor Eugene M. Cline officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 21, 2009 in the funeral home and one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Trout Run Cemetery.
