Herman Updegraff

     Herman Updegraff was born on 1 September 1759 at York County, Province of Pennsylvania, America.1 He was the son of Derrick Updegraff and Susan Stricker. Herman Updegraff married Eve [—?—]. Herman Updegraff died in March 1803 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 43 years and 6 months.1
     He This family resided in Newberry Township, York County, PA and are presumed to be the ones listed in the 1790 Northumberland County, PA Census with - 1 male over 16, 1 male under 16 and 2 females, as Herman did remove from York County to this area, which is now found in Lycoming County, city of Williamsport, PA on land called 'Long Reach', which once belonged to his father Derrick. They were members of the First Methodist Church that was organized in Lycoming County. The family Bible was in the possession of Mrs. Nancy Jane (Gilday) Bennett in 1911, a descendant. This Bible contained the following records: Derick, son of Herman and Eva, born 1794; Joseph, son of Herman and Eva, born 1796; Mary, daughter of Herman and Eva, born 1798; Abraham, son of Herman and Eva, born 1799.
