His obituary was published on 1 February 2006 in the Marin Independent Journal, printed in San Rafael, Marin County, California. His obituary stated:

David Sherbon, M.D. Left this world on Tuesday, January 24th, 2006. Dr. Sherbon, a retired psychiatrist and practicing artist, was a longtime resident of Kentfield.

He was born in Pennsylvania, studied at University of Pennsylvania, then completed his medical and fine arts education at Colorado College. He fulfilled his medical internship and residency requirements at Langley Porter Institute, UCSF, after which he practiced psychiatry in San Francisco and in Marin County. Dedicated to his medical practice and his patients, he was also devoted to his life as an artist. He was a lifelong sculptor and painter, producing and exhibiting many beautiful pieces of artwork. As a doctor and as an artist, he marveled at the elegance and diversity of nature's organic structures.

He loved music, intellectual discourse, poetry and literature. He had a quick wit, reveling in humorous word play. But most profoundly, he loved the visual arts, revering their exquisite capacity to reveal the wordless spectra of the human mind and heart. Ever curious about human nature and the world around him, he traveled widely throughout Europe and the Americas, as well as some of the Pacific Islands, absorbing the richness of cultural and environmental variety he found. He especially loved Paris, France, the deserts of the American Southwest, the great mountains of the world, the seaside and his beloved Mt. Tamalpais. He enjoyed hiking the woods and trails throughout Marin. In his youth, he had loved the solitude of cross country skiing.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Sherbon and his loving daughter, Suzanne Sherbon. He is deeply loved and will be missed beyond measure. There will be no public services. Donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders, The Nature Conservancy, or Marin Agricultural Land Trust.2
