Joseph Norris Kenna was born on 10 January 1888 at Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia. He was the son of John Edward Kenna and Anna Benninghaus. Joseph Norris Kenna married, at age 28, Louise Mountcastle, age 25, daughter of Robert Edward Lee Mountcastle and Eliza Byrd Salmon, on Thursday, 22 June 1916 at Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. Joseph Norris Kenna died on 20 January 1950 at Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia, at age 62 years and 10 days.
