     John H. Marquardt was born on 15 February 1923 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1,2 He was the son of Norman Edward Marquardt and Sophia P. Tepel.1 John H. Marquardt married, at age 21, Eleanor M. Schneider on Thursday, 11 May 1944.1 John H. Marquardt died on 24 September 2004 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 81 years, 7 months and 9 days.1,2
     John H. Marquardt also went by the name of Jack.1 He appeared on the census of 10 April 1930 in the household of Sophia P. Tepel at Williamsport, 10th Ward, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary was published on 26 September 2004 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:

     John H. "Jack" Marquardt, 81, of 1410 Elwood Road, passed away Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, while surrounded by his immediate family.

He and his wife, the former Eleanor M. Schneider, were married May 11, 1944.

Jack was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Williamsport, a son of Norman Edward and Sophia Tepel Marquardt.

Jack served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Earlier in life, he had been a certified detective and worked for the Veterans Administration. In 1985 he retired from AVCO after 34 years of employment.

Jack was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and fast pitch softball. Jack played in the city league softball league, and at one time was scouted to play baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was also a manager for a Little League team. Because of his athletic achievements, Jack was nominated to the West Branch Hall of Fame. He also loved nature, and being outdoors.

Jack was a life member of Church of the Savior, Lutheran, where he was also an usher and a greeter.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, John H. Jr. of Hughesville and Robert Louis of Montoursville; a daughter, Penny Joanne Estes of Williamsport; six grandchildren, Nathan John Kulp, Elizabeth Suzanne Davis, Amber Lee Marquardt, Michelle Murphy, Cory and Sarah Marquardt; and a great-grandson, Landen John Kulp. He was preceded in death by his brother, Norman William Marquardt.

A memorial service celebrating Jack's life will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Church of the Savior, Lutheran, 522 Grier St., Williamsport, with his pastor, the Rev. H. Frank Showers, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.

The family will provide the flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Savior, Lutheran Memorial Fund. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval Funeral Home.1
