Jesse Carlton Staebler was born on 18 July 1899 at Colwell, Floyd County, Iowa.1,2 He was the son of George Washington Staebler and Geneva Rosalie Porter. Jesse Carlton Staebler married, at age 31, Leona Wendt, age 25 on Saturday, 28 February 1931 at Colwell, Floyd County, Iowa.2 Jesse Carlton Staebler died on 19 November 1999 at Bear Creek Convalescent Center, Rochester, Olmsted County, Minnesota, at age 100 years, 4 months and 1 day.1,2 He was buried on 24 November 1999 in the Oakwood Cemetery, located in Plymouth, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Frank Krahn.2
Jesse Carlton Staebler and Leona Wendt lived in Adams, Mower County, Minnesota, between 1938 and 1968.2 He became a widower at the age of 90 with the death of Leona on 16 February 1990.3 His obituary was published on 23 November 1999 in the Globe Gazette, printed in Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. His obituary stated:
ROCHESTER, Minn. - Jesse Carlton Staebler, 100, of 1525 11th Ave. N.E., Rochester, died Friday (Nov. 19, 1999) at the Bear Creek Convalescent Center, of complications of pneumonia.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Griffin-Gray Funeral Home, in Stewartville, Minn., with the Rev. Frank Krahn, of the Mission Covenant Church, officiating. There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and one hour prior to services on Wednesday morning.
Jesse Staebler was born on July 18, 1899 in Colwell, Iowa. He grew up in Colwell and attended schools there. He was united in marriage to Leona Wendt on Feb. 28, 1931 in Colwell, Iowa.
After their marriage, the couple lived in the Mason City area, later farming in Nora Springs. In 1938 they moved to Adams, Minn. where they farmed until their retirement in 1968, then moving to Lomita, Calif. They moved to Stewartville, Minn. in 1989. After his wife's death, Mr. Staebler lived with his son in Rochester until entering the convalescent center in 1994.
He was a member of the Taopi Mission Covenant Church in Taopi, Minn.
He is survived by one daughter, Jean (Mrs. Clayton) Reese, of Lagna Niguel, Calif; two sons, Howard Staebler, of Anaheim, Calif. and Harold Staebler, of Rochester, Minn; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and one brother, Kenneth Staebler, of Temple City, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son and four brothers. Griffin-Gray Funeral Home, (507) 533-4664.2 According to the Social Security Administrations Death Index Jesse's last known residence was Laguna Niguel, Orange County, California.1
