George R. Metzger was born on 6 July 1914 at Linden, Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Charles W. Metzger and Catherine Elizabeth Waltz. George R. Metzger married Carmen Confair circa 1937. George R. Metzger died on 21 July 2000 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 86 years and 15 days. He was buried in the Green Lawn Cemetery, located in Lansdale, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
He was Metzger Ice Company - Founder. His obituary was published on 22 July 2000 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
George R. Metzger, 86, of 20 Grampian Blvd., died Friday, July 21, 2000, at home after an extended illness. His wife, the former Carmen Confair, died Dec. 11, 1995. He was founder and owner of the former Metzger Ice Co. A World War II veteran he was a member of Garrett Cochran Post 1, American Legion. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. He was a member of Lodge 755 F&AM, Williamsport Consistory, Zafar Grotto and Wheel Inn.
Born July 6, 1914, in Linden, he was a son of Charles W. and Catherine E. Waltz Metzger. Surviving are a daughter, Donna R. Epley of this city; a sister Wanda M. Howey of this city; a grandson Jeffrey Grammas; three step-grandchildren, Carrie Hamm, Thomas and Paul Epley; and a great grandson. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Liddick, Grace Bower and Vaughn Fisher.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Sanders , 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Jeffrey Williams, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The family will provide the flowers.1
