Edward John Bower

     Edward John Bower was born in October 1867. He was the son of Ambrose Bower and Catharine Fincher. Edward John Bower married Alice M. Waltz, daughter of Johann Waltz and Margaret [—?—], circa 1888. Edward John Bower died on 19 July 1940 at Elmira, Chemung County, New York, at age 72 years and 9 months. He was buried on 23 July 1940 in the Woodlawn Cemetery, located in Elmira, Chemung County, New York. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Edgar O. Spaven.
     His obituary was published on 20 July 1940 in the local paper, printed in Elmira, Chemung County, New York. His obituary stated:

     Bower, Edward J., 73, of 588 Lyons St. died at 4:30 p. m. Friday, July 19, 1940. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Alice Waltz Bower; a daughter, Mrs. Amy E. Rice of Elmira; a son, Ellis Stanley Bower of Elmira; a sister Mrs. James Robinson of Williamsport; several nieces and nephews. The body is in the Wilson Funeral Home from which it will be removed late this afternoon to the family home. Funeral will be held there Tuesday at 2 p. m. The Rev. Edgar O. Spaven, pastor of the Centenary Methodist Church will officiate. Burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Officials of Centenary Church will meet the Rev. Edgar O. Spaven at the corner of Southport and Lyon Sts. to visit the home at 7:30 p. m. Monday.
