Donald Dilbert Cronister1

     Donald Dilbert Cronister was born on 21 November 1919 at Athens, Menard County, Illinois.1 He first married Gae Smith, daughter of Calvin V. Smith and Della May Raisty, circa 1945. Donald Dilbert Cronister married a second time Carol Giberson in 1979 at Sherman, Sangamon County, Illinois.1 Donald Dilbert Cronister died on 3 April 2003 at Cantrall, Sangamon County, Illinois, at age 83 years, 4 months and 13 days.1 He was buried on 7 April 2003 in the Joel Hall Cemetery, located in Athens, Menard County, Illinois.1
     His obituary was published on 5 April 2003 in the The State Journal-Register, printed in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. His obituary stated:

     CANTRALL - Donald D. Cronister, 83, of Cantrall died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at his home.

     He was born Nov. 21, 1919, in Athens, the son of Harry and Margaret Pitman Cronister. He married Carol Giberson in 1979 in Sherman.

     Mr. Cronister graduated from Athens High School in 1937. He was a lifetime farmer, retiring in 1984. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, serving from 1942-46.

     He was a member and past president of the Athens School Board, president of Athens Park Board for several years, past commander of the American Legion, member of Cantrall United Methodist Church and member and past president of the Cantrall United Methodist Church Men's Club. He also served on the Sangamon River Board and American Red Cross Board for Sangamon County for several years and the board for Culver Grain Coop for 15 years.

     Survivors: wife, Carol; a daughter, Barb (husband, Don) Lynn of Effingham; two sons, Rick Cronister of Cantrall and Dean (wife, Janice) Cronister of Burr Ridge; a stepson, Ray Giberson of Las Vegas; a stepdaughter, Robin (husband, Tim) Treseler of Petersburg; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

     Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens, the Rev. Gloria David and the Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating. Burial: Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.1
