John William Updegrove was born on 29 August 1920 at Wallace, Shoshone County, Idaho.1 He was the son of William Blair Updegrove and Agnes Alodia Murphy.2 John William Updegrove first married, at age 20, Marjorie Elaine Clark, age 22, daughter of Arthur Benjamin Clark and Hazel Alta Kettenring, on Saturday, 23 August 1941 at Malad, Oneida County, Idaho.2 John William Updegrove married a second time, at age 52, Elsie Lorraine Fox, daughter of Myron Leroy Fox and Maymie Arnold Lindsey, in November 1972 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.2 John William Updegrove died on 14 August 1999 at age 78 years, 11 months and 16 days.1
He was in the Seebees for 27 years then in the United States Air Force, from which he retired as a Master Sergeant.2 He was a maintance mechanic.2 As of 1984, John William Updegrove lived at 4092 South Boothill Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.2 According to the Social Security Administrations Death Index John's last known residence was Reedsport, Douglas County, Oregon.1
