John J. Updegrove was born on 6 February 1924.1 He was the son of Thomas Eugene Updegrove and Margaret Gallagher. John J. Updegrove married Ruth E. Bashore circa 1948. John J. Updegrove died on 19 September 1997 at age 73 years, 7 months and 13 days.1
His obituary was published on 23 September 1997 in the Harrisburg Patriot, printed in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
LEHIGH -- John J. Updegrove, 73, of Lehigh Acres, died Friday.
He was retired from the Navy Ships Parts Control Center, Hampden Twp. and Derbyshire Machine and Tool Co., Philadelphia.
He was a member of Lehigh VFW and the Elks.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Jean Updegrove; three sons, John T. of Key West, Fla., Michael S. of Rhome, Texas, and Patrick of Hamilton Square, N.J; a stepson, James Foote of Tom Ball, Texas; two stepdaughters, Pamela Laudermilch of Enola and Beverly Cordier of Boiling Springs; a sister, Jeanne DeFrank of Camp Hill; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehigh Acres. National Cremation Society, Fort Myers, Fla., is handling arrangements.2 According to the Social Security Administrations Death Index John's last known residence was Lehigh Acres, Lee County, Florida.1
