Richard H. Getgen

Richard H. Getgen was born on 28 September 1919.1 He was the son of Ira Lerch Getgen and Eley May Hollins. Richard H. Getgen married, at age 24, Idamaye Welch, daughter of Fred Welch and Effie Wurster, on Friday, 18 February 1944 at Saint John's Evangelical Church, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2 Richard H. Getgen died on 7 October 2002 at age 83 years and 9 days.1 He was buried in the Centennial Cemetery, located in Cogan House Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
His obituary was published on 8 October 2002 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
Richard H. Getgen, 83, of 1829 Cemetery Road, Trout Run, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at his home. Born Sept. 28, 1919, in Williamsport, he was a son of Ira and Elcy Hollins Getgen. He attended Williamsport Technical Institute and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He retired from AVCO after 42 years.
He and his wife, the former Idamaye Welch were married Feb. 18, 1944. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Barry R. of Trout Run; two daughters, Anne M. Getgen of Williamsport and Linda K. Getgen, wife of William Deveney of Weymouth, Mass; a granddaughter, Therese Bowen; a great-granddaughter, Emily Ayn Bowen; and two brothers, Jack of Williamsport and Sam of Montoursville.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial in Centennial Cemetery, Cogan House Twp. In lieu of flowers contributions should be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 East Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701. Arrangements by Sanders Mortuary.
