John Jacob Ludwig was born in June 1872 at Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Charles Ludwig and Elizabeth Aderhold. John Jacob Ludwig married Elvira Reed, daughter of Samuel B. Reed and Charlotte Grove, circa 1893. John Jacob Ludwig died in 1961 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 88 years. He was buried in the Stoltz Cemetery, located in Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
