Franklin Christopher Kiess was born on 14 January 1849 at Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Emanuel Kiess and Charlotte Sigmund. Franklin Christopher Kiess married Hannah Ella Guinter in 1876.1

Franklin C. Kiess, youngest living son of Emanuel Kiess, was born on the homestead, January 14, 1849, and has always lived on the same farm. In 1876 he married Ella Guinter, and has a family of four children. Politically he is a Democrat, and has served as school director, and as secretary of the board of education.
