Donald Eugene Heim was born on 19 July 1930 at Balls Mills, Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Paul Wilson Heim and Lillian Laetha Mutchler.1 Donald Eugene Heim married, at age 21, Mary Ellen Boyer, age 22, daughter of William Boyer and Myrtle Haywood, on Saturday, 14 June 1952.2,3 Donald Eugene Heim died on 7 June 2006 at Burgaw, Pender County, North Carolina, at age 75 years, 10 months and 19 days.1
He appears in family snapshot circa 1995. His obituary was published on 9 June 2006 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
Donald Eugene Heim, age 75, of Burgaw, N.C., died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1930, in Lycoming County, and was the son of the late Paul W. and Lillian Mutchler Heim.
Mr. Heim served his country honorably for over 21 years in the US Marine Corps, serving during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. After retiring from the military, while living in Michigan, he was a member of the Browntown Volunteer Fire Department and for a number of years was employed with Huron Valley Steel, where he made many life long friends. In 1987 Don and Mary Ellen moved to Burgaw, N.C., where they became members of Burgaw Baptist Church.
Don was a man of integrity, faith and courage who gave unceasingly to his family, country, friends and community.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen Heim of the home; son, Donald Eugene Heim Jr. of Wilmington, N.C; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Jean and Tommy Garriss of Burgaw, N.C. and Denise Elaine and Stanley W. Uhlin of Lafayette, La; grandchildren, Zachary Heim, Sarah Kunhardt, Mathew Kunhardt, Sarah Garriss, Elissa Hahn and husband, Kevin, and Derek Eldridge and wife, Keri; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Ruth Heim of Wilkes-Barre; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jim Mechley of Cogan Station; numerous nieces and nephews and many, many “brothers” in the Marine Corps.
Committal service and burial with full military honors accorded by the US Marine Corps Honor Guard will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, N.C.
The memorial service will be at noon on Saturday at Burgaw Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw, N.C. Memorial gifts may be given to the Davita Patient Citizens Foundation, PO Box 1391, Burgaw, NC 28425. Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Burgaw.1
