Martin Vanburen Updegraff was born circa 1840 at Shelby County, Indiana.1 He was the son of Martin Updegraff and Pauline Davidson. Martin Vanburen Updegraff married Adelaide Miller. Martin Vanburen Updegraff died on 25 February 1880 at Waldron, Liberty Township, Shelby County, Indiana.1 He was buried in the Shelbyville Cemetery, located in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Indiana.
Martin attended lectures at the Ohio Medical College where he graduated about 1862. He then entered the Army as an assistant Surgeon during the Civil War. Later he located in Waldron, Liberty Township, Shelby County, Indiana. He is listed in the 1870 census in Waldron. His wife, Addie is listed in the 1880 census in Waldron. He was a doctor.
