Charles J. Stockwell was born on 24 December 1915 at Pennsylvania.2 He was the son of Arad Harris Stockwell and Catherine Kelly.1 Charles J. Stockwell married, at age 30, Mary Elizabeth Winner, daughter of Harry Merrill Winner and Kathryne Updegraff Bennett, on Wednesday, 7 August 1946.1 Charles J. Stockwell died on 28 July 2001 at age 85 years, 7 months and 4 days.2
He appeared on the census of 4 April 1930 in the household of Arad Harris Stockwell and Catherine Kelly at Williamsport, 13th Ward, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Charles attended Lycoming College and Babson Institute, then became president of C.A. Reed Company. His obituary was published on 29 July 2001 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
Charles J. Stockwell, 85, of 1653 Graham Road, Williamsport, died Saturday, July 28, 2001.
He was born December 24, 1915 in Framingham, Mass., a son of Arad and Catherine Kelly Stockwell. He and his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Winner, celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Aug. 7.
He attended the former Dickinson Seminary and Babson College. He was president of the former C.A. Reed Company, retiring in 1968. He then served as president for the former Neyhart's and Rural Gas Co. during the same time period. He was a member of the Church of Annunciation, past president of the Blind Association and Ross Club and the longest golfing member of the Williamsport Country Club. He served as chairman of the board for the Williamsport Hospital Medical Center, Northern Central Bank and Keystone Financial Corporation. He was also former president for the West Branch Manufacturing Association. He was a member of Dunwoody Hunting and Fishing Club, Barbours. He was an avid golfer and fly fisherman. During WWII, he was a plane spotter. He was a volunteer for the former Community Chest, now United Way, and a former trustee for Lycoming College and the Y.M.C.A.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Katherine S. Gilbert of Chevy Chase, Md., Ellen S. Owens and Mary S. Zeitler, both of the city; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth Burns McGuire, Michael Stockwell Zeitler, Charles Adam Zeitler, Peter Ferrence Zeitler and Laura Katrina Gilbert. He was preceded in death by a sister Rita Stockwell Baird and a nephew, David Stockwell Baird. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the church, 702 W. Fourth St. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Allen & Redmond's, 331 Elmira St. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. According to the Social Security Administrations Death Index Charles's last known residence was Bonita Springs, Lee County, Florida.2
