Louis Edward Bates was born on 16 April 1926 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Boyd Williard Bates and Golden Loretta Updegraff. Louis Edward Bates married Joyce A. Remaly circa 1947. Louis Edward Bates died on 10 April 2002 at Linden, Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 75 years, 11 months and 25 days. He was buried in the Wildwood Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
His obituary was published on 12 April 2002 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
Lewis E. Bates, 75, of 179 Harvest Moon, Linden, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at his home. Born April 16, 1926, in Williamsport, he was a son of Boyd W. and Golden L. Updegraff Bates.
Lewis was a Naval veteran of the Pacific theatre during World War II. He had been employed as a cutter by various local garment companies.
Surviving are his wife, the former Joyce A. Remaly; two sons, David A. Bates and Edward O. Bryan, Jr. of Newberry; a daughter, Katherine L. Lose of Montgomery; two sisters, Mary J. Thomas of Cogan Station and Janet M. Wells of Gilette and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie J. Bryan, in 1985.
Graveside services at the convenience of the family will be held in Wildwood Cemetery with the Rev. Kraig L. Faust officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Sanders Mortuary.
